SUMP SYSTEMS
Why Servicing your radon Sump Matters:
Sump systems are very reliable and generally last 6 and 10 years without replacement parts. Sump systems require check up inspections to determine if the fan is still running and that vents are not blocked.
What’s included in a Sump service:
A Radon Protection UK Engineer will attend site and carry out a visual inspection of all pipework and associated fittings inc electrics.
• Removal and replacement of radon extraction fan.
• Ensure the system is clear of obstructions.
• External cleaning of all pipework and fan.
• Power the system down
• Inspect the pump for debris.
• Inspect sump for sealing holes.
• Power the system up checking for faults on start-up (simulate a power cut)

SERVICING PIV (POSITIVE INPUT VENTILATION) SYSTEMS
Positive Input Ventilation (PIV) system servicing is essential every 1–5 years to maintain efficiency.
Why servicing your PIV system matters
Over time, the filters inside your PIV unit naturally start to collect dust, pollen, and fine particles. That’s their job — but when they get clogged up, airflow drops, and the system can’t push enough clean air into your home.
You might notice the air feels stuffier, or condensation has started appearing again on your windows or mirrors. That’s a sign your PIV could do with a service.
Regular servicing keeps the fan and filters clean, makes sure the controls are working properly, and checks that air is being distributed evenly throughout your home. It also helps keep your energy use down, as a clogged unit will work harder and use more power than it should.

WHAT'S INCLUDED IN A PIV SERVICE?
During a PIV service, the focus is on giving the system a thorough clean and making sure it’s doing what it’s meant to — delivering a steady flow of clean, filtered air into your home or workplace.
HERE'S WHAT IS TYPICALLY INCLUDED:
A Radon Protection UK Engineer will attend site and carry out a Filter replacement – Depending on condition and manufacturer’s guidance.
-
Fan and motor inspection – Making sure the fan runs freely and quietly.
-
Ducting checks – Ensuring air is flowing properly through the vents.
-
Airflow and heater test – I’ll test that the airflow is as it should be, and check that the heater (if fitted) is operating correctly.
The main focus is on keeping it clean, checking that the fan and filters are in good condition, and making sure the airflow and heat are working as they should.

Ongoing Radon Testing and Monitoring
Locations / rooms which have known high radon levels prior to successful radon remediation should be re-tested at regular intervals as per UKHSA and HSE guidance.
Domestic and workplace re-testing:
The re-test should be carried out using passive detectors for a minimum of three months. For ongoing measurements, an electronic digital monitor can be used to measure rooms according to an occupier’s needs.
Radon Protection UK provides a range of spare parts and replacement filters.
